Therapy

At West Hartford Behavioral Health, we provide a safe, supportive, and engaging space for children and adolescents to address their mental health needs. We provide individual and family therapy. Occasionally we also offer group therapy and social skills groups. Please check our website for active groups.

ADHD Evaluations

West Hartford Behavioral Health offers comprehensive evaluations to assess for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). A thorough evaluation is crucial for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning.

What's Included: Our ADHD evaluations include:

  • Clinical and diagnostic interviews: Detailed interviews with parents and the child/adolescent to gather information about developmental history, ADHD symptoms, and current functioning.

  • Behavioral Rating Scales: Standardized questionnaires completed by parents, teachers, and sometimes the child/adolescent to assess for ADHD symptoms and other related concerns.

  • Computer assessment: Use of a continuous performance test to obtain objective data to support diagnostic clarification

  • Feedback Session and Report: A detailed explanation of the evaluation results, diagnosis (if applicable), and personalized recommendations. Formal report to provide to school/treatment providers.

Parent Consultation

Parent consultative services at West Hartford Behavioral Health helps to provide parents with practical tools and strategies to manage their child's challenging behaviors and improve family interactions.

Who It's For: This is available for parents whose children are being seen for therapy at WHBH or separately. Parenting is the recommended treatment for children under the age of 5. Parenting consultative services may be beneficial for parents of children who are experiencing:

  • Defiance and noncompliance

  • Aggression

  • Tantrums

  • Difficulties following rules

  • ADHD-related challenges

  • Challenges with systems of care

Benefits of Parenting Consultation: Parenting services are individualized to help parents feel more confident and effective in their parenting, learn evidenced based parenting practices, improve communication with their child, reduce problem behaviors, and create a more harmonious environment specifically for their family.
